G'day, I'm Emil Cholich,
writer of ads, games, and fiction.

Born in Yugoslavia a little before it stopped existing, I grew up a bit in New Zealand and a lot in Perth, Western Australia.

From an early age, I was cursed with the need to write words and have people tell me "Hey, those words aren't bad!" Though a therapist may want to unpack that need for external validation, I'm grateful that it's taken me to many places and allowed me to make stuff I like with great people across Perth, Sydney, and Amsterdam. You can see some of that work on this website.

But there's more to life than work: My wife's name is Cat and my cat's name is Bogdana. I have a son who is strapped to my chest as I write this, napping peacefully, and drooling adorably. I think it's drool. Oh shi

I've written for some of the biggest numbers and letters in advertising - 180, 72, TBWA, BBDO, and VMLY&R - as well as in-house for adidas and Sony's Guerrilla Games.

My work's been awarded at Cannes, New York Festival, Spikes Asia, the Cleos, and AWARD.

In 2022, I made the leap from copy into game writing. As a Principal Writer at Sony's Guerrilla Games in Amsterdam, I contributed to a bunch of projects with varied styles and tones, named robot dinosaurs, developed new characters, imagined delightful and dark settings, and wove compelling questlines.

On my time off from writing I spend some time... writing. I helped found and currently run Strange Birds, a thousands-strong MeetUp organising fiction feedback groups. Occasionally, I'll publish a short story. You can see a selection of my favorite tales below, available from literary journals and small presses that would greatly appreciate your patronage:
